Before you do this, though, you need to know how to get your foot in the door. What you may not realize is that there are various things that employers are looking for in those who will do an HR job. In other words, before you apply, be sure you are the type of job candidate the company is looking for.
Get Your Education
It is a good idea to get an education in human resources first. You can get an associate's degree to get started, but most HR job positions do require a bachelor's degree. Most employers also want to see some work experience. To get this, you may want to work as an entry level professional just handling one or two aspects of the position. You'll get paid less but you will be getting the experience you need to get into a full time HR position.
Network
Keep in mind that one of the best ways to get an HR job is to know someone that's hiring or that has a connection that will work for you. The problem is this is a job many companies hire for from within. After all, they are putting their most valuable asset, human capital, in your hands. They want someone that understands the company well and that is willing to do whatever it takes to help the company to do well. That's why it helps to start at an entry level position and to work your way up the ladder that way.
Don't overlook networking on sites like LinkedIn and Facebook, though. You'll also want to join local human resource professional groups. Even if you do not have a degree in this field, you can often find positions available to you at the entry level by just getting to know some of the professionals in this industry. You may also want to think about working as a hiring manager at a temporary employment facility. This gives you fantastic skills.
Getting an HR job can be one of the most rewarding steps you take for your career. If you like working with people and you really want to help them to get the jobs they want, this could be the right position for you.
